Summer TV Watchlist: Productions Featuring Wallpaper by On Air Design

If you’re looking for something lighthearted and easy to watch during summer, we’ve got you covered. If you’re like us, you’re enjoying every bit of daylight that you can, and don’t necessarily want to commit to a whole movie during your evening Netflix session–though if you want to binge-watch something, we won’t judge. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite TV productions we’ve worked on this spring to recommend as summer viewing! These range from comedy to whodunit to Gordon Ramsay (who really is his own genre, after all). Check out our picks and keep an eye out for OA wallpaper, faux surfaces, and more as you watch.

Hacks

Production Designers: Rob Tokarz, Jon Carlos, Alec Contestabile, Daniel Novotny

Disgraced, canceled comedy writer Ava meets aging standup comedy star Deborah Vance. Ava helps freshen up Deborah’s sets, and Deborah helps Ava temper her online presence and get her career back on track. Hijinks ensure, of course, but it all works out in the end. The Hacks production design team used various On Air printed goods for their sets– vintage wallpaper, glamorous gold wallpaper for the Vegas sets, a panel interview backdrop banner, and faux pickleball courts, printed on linoleum, among others.

Mid-Century Modern

Production Designers: Greg J. Grande, Glenda Rovello

Mid-Century Modern is most similar to The Golden Girls, if the girls were middle-aged gay men sharing a house together in Palm Springs. The series is highly rated on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, with themes of family, found family, and friendship underscoring the laughs. The main entryway/living room area features faux terrazzo printed by On Air design, and the bedroom features a sophisticated gradient grasscloth wallcovering. A groovy pink-and-black pattern (part of the Society of Wonderland collection by our sister brand Astek) adds a feminine touch to the clothing store set.

Very Important People

Art Department: Rachel Suppa

Very Important People is one of Dropout comedy’s many super unique concepts: comedians undergo wild makeup transformations (Wigs! Prosthetics! Crazy costumes!) without knowing the final result. After seeing themselves in the mirror for the first time, they must create a character to match their new look and sit down for an improv interview. The backdrop of the could-be-a-talkshow, could-be-a-hotel room set is a mural printed by On Air, which is part of the Atmos collection by Astek.

Skeleton Crew

Production Designers: Doug Chiang, Oliver Scholl

The newest installment in the Star Wars universe, Skeleton Crew, is kid-friendly and brings a sense of dazzlement and wonder. A group of kids is scattered across the galaxy, trying to find their way home. Along the way, they encounter many different Star Wars locales, which have the same level of futuristic, lived-in realism as the rest of the Star Wars canon. In the Moon Observatory, canvas prints serve as ancient tapestries, while elsewhere, futuristic murals fit seamlessly into the well-established, beloved Star Wars mise-en-scène.

The Residence

Production Designer: François Audouy

Cordelia Cupp, the world’s best detective, is tasked with solving a murder: the White House Chief Usher, A.B. Wynter, has mysteriously died during a state dinner for the Australian prime minister. With 132 rooms and 157 suspects, Cupp has to chase down clues and connect dots that only she can see. The 132 rooms of the White House are iconic, almost a character in their own right, and the production design team had their work cut out for them. On Air was up to the task of printing wallpaper for the Blue Room and Red Room, along with murals to wrap around the oval Diplomatic Reception Room. Our team also created faux marble for various surfaces to finish off the iconic White House sets.

Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service

Production Designer: Brian Crabb

Love Kitchen Nightmares? You’ll love the newest series from the celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service. Restaurants in need of desperate help are connected with Ramsay thanks to a mole on the inside. A few hidden cameras later, Ramsay has eyes on the unsavory day-to-day operations of the restaurant. After the reveal, restaurants receive a transformation at the hands of Chef Ramsay, including menu updates and an interior design facelift. The wallpaper is a focal point of these renovations, and the most recent episode of Secret Service included wallcovering by our sister brand Astek: an illustrative floral on a faux-burlap background.

Enjoy your summer watchlist! Keep an eye out for all the wallpaper and faux surfaces we worked on. Happy watching!
