Custom Printing in The Brady Experience

In 2019, HGTV’s “A Very Brady Renovation” set out to capture the nostalgia of one of television’s favorite families: The Brady Bunch. In 2019, HGTV bought the house used in exterior shots. They then assembled stars from across their various shows, along with the six Brady children, to renovate the interior to resemble the sets of The Brady Bunch. While the team had to take some liberties with the floor plan, they were uncompromising with other details. Our sister brand Astek was called on to recreate wallpaper and fabrics as seen in the show, to make sure everything looked as faithful to the original as possible. This summer, the house was opened to the public as “The Brady Experience,” and we got to experience it for ourselves. Below, check out some examples of our custom printing capabilities, as showcased in the Brady home.

The living room sofa was upholstered with custom fabric designed and printed by Astek, referencing old footage and stills from the series. The final floral design is almost identical to the one in the show!

Likewise, Astek printed custom fabric for the quilted covers on the daybeds in the family room. The chessboard, pom poms, and funky cat sculpture all make it seem as if the Brady children had just been here.

For the girls’ bedroom, Astek developed a sweet floral design to match the wallpaper shown in the series. The design was then printed on both wallpaper and curtain fabric to achieve a perfectly matching, seamless effect.

Similarly, in the boys’ room, Astek created a custom nautical-themed pattern to print on both wallpaper and fabric for the curtains. The design team relied on stills from the series to re-create accurate wallpaper.

Mike and Carol’s bedroom was designed with a screened partition between the bathroom and the main bedroom space. Astek printed a Japanese Maple leaf motif onto separate panels of paper-like specialty shoji screen material to match the screen shown in the original set. (Fun fact– during the time The Brady Bunch was on air, toilets were not allowed to be shown on screen. The bathroom attached to this room was never shown, but the HGTV team built one anyway, and filled it with period-accurate toothpaste and other beauty products.)

We’re so happy to have participated in this delightfully nostalgic project, using our custom design and printing capabilities to bring this beloved space to life. We’re equally excited to have been able to visit in-person, and hope this house continues to bring joy to Brady Bunch fans!
